What causes blackheads and whiteheads?

Everyone is not aware of the self-moisturizing mechanism out skin has which is through sebaceous glands which secretes oil named sebum which are stored in follicles. Based on this mechanism whenever the follicle becomes full oil is spilled onto the skin which helps in keeping the skin healthy and moisturized, however there is small portion of oil trapped inside this follicle instead of just flowing onto the skin.This results in development of bacteria in the follicle itself which ultimately leads to creation of pimple though there are also times when instead of infection everything gets clogged up in follicle to form comedones which are commonly referred to as whiteheads and blackheads.
